Metronidazole is active against protozoa: Trichomonas vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica.
Metronidazole is also active against obligate anaerobic bacteria:
Gram-negative - Bacteroides spp. (including Bacteroides fragilis, Bacteroides distasоnis, Bacteroides ovatus, Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron, Bacteroides vulgatus), Fusobacterium spp., Veillonella spp., Prevotella spp. (Prevotella bivia, Prevotella buccae, Prevotella disiens),
Gram-positive - Clostridium spp., Eubacterium spp., Peptococcus spp., Peptostreptococcus spp., Mobiluncus spp. and optional anaerobic - Gardnerella vaginalis.
Miconazole is an antifungal medication intended to treat ring worm, pityriasis versicolor, and yeast infections of the skin or vagina.
Miconazole effectively kills dermatophytes, yeast, including the Candida genus, as well as some gram-positive bacteria, including staphylococci and streptococci.
